Getting it right

Are you a voluntary sector organisation or group providing a service for children and young people? If so would you be interested in getting involved in the work that the Safe Network are producing.

The Safe Network is in the early stages of developing core standards and guidance for voluntary sector groups on the key areas of:

The aim is to create a simple and easy-to-use resource, relevant for organisations and groups of any size, and available in a number of different formats, including hard copy, DVD, an on-line tool and downloadable PDF documents.

There is also a possibility of an interactive self-assessment tool.

If the standards and guidance are to be of any use at all, it is vital that organisations feel that they are helpful, relevant and usable. Organisations should feel that they are taking part in the development of the resource and be keen to use it in their own situation.
From the wealth of good practice that happens, the unit wants to recognise this to develop the standards and guidance, as a means of sharing learning at a national level.

The Safe Network has written a very early draft of the content of the standards to act as a starting point for the consultation process. There is a feedback questionnaire that goes with the document, which we have kept as short and straight forward as possible. There is also a stand-alone questionaire that doesn’t require you to have read the draft standards. You can choose either of these questionaires, depending how much time you have.

If you were to take part in this, you would be getting involved in an exciting national development, which will help to form key aspects of practice in the Third Sector. In return, the Safe Network will make sure that your contribution is acknowledged in the final draft. The Safe Network is also exploring what else could be offered as a thank you.
