The National Deaf Children's Society (NDCS) has commissioned the University of Manchester to produce a framework to help Local Safeguarding Children’s Boards (LSCB) review their safeguarding arrangements for deaf children.

The review is contained within the Local Safeguarding Board Resource Pack (PDF)

It is suggested in the draft framework that LSCB's should:

  • Audit the number of deaf children recognised as being in need within it's authority .
  • Investigate whether the range of professionals who work with deaf children and families are aware of the grounds on which a deaf child is considered to be in need.
  • Identify whether there is a clear referral pathway to children's social care for deaf children.
  • Monitor the skills and capacity of children's social care workerd to respond to deaf children in need.
