The day hosted by United Nations General Assembly is a chance to commemorate the power and strength of all youth from around the globe.

The occasion has been celebrated every year on August 12 since 1999.

The theme for this years International Youth Day is 'Dialogue and Mutual Understanding'.
The choice of theme for this year reflects on appreciation of the value of dialogue among youth from different cultures and generations across the world.

This year will coincide with the 25th anniversary of the initial setup of International Youth Year in 1985, with International Youth Day being setup in 1999.
