Can anyone here tell me what the difference is between a safeguarding policy and a child protection policy?

Brief description: Safeguarding means proactively seeking to involve the whole community in keeping children safe and promoting their welfare. Child protection is a central part of safeguarding and promoting welfare. It is the process of protecting individual children identified as either suffering or at risk of suffering significant harm as a result of abuse or neglect.

That's really useful to know, I have often wondered what the difference is.

Hi,
Could I have some advice please?
We are a lead refinery employing 152 people. We have recently employed an Apprentice Accountant who is 16 years old. I am therefore now tasked with writing a safeguarding policy for our business.
Her apprenticeship body has also asked if we have a safeguarding policy. Can you direct me to the most useful information sources in this area please?
Many thanks

Have just signed up for the Pack to help set up a clear policy for our amateur theatre group. Are there specific guides on this type of organisation? We don't have children / young adults in every production but enough to make us concerned we are not been as organised as we should be

Hi Paul,
I think it would definately be a good idea to write at a child protection policy. There's a useful page on this site that includes a sample policy http://www.safenetwork.org.uk/resources/Pages/writing_policies_and_procedures.aspx
It would laso be a good idea to nominate someone to act as child protection/safeguarding officer. This person would be the designated person for dealing with any concerns raised by either children or fellow adults. This person would need to be CRB checked and it would be a good idea for them to attend some child protection awareness training to enable them to recognise potential signs and indicators of abuse. Please see the reporting a concern and training pages on this site.
There is a really good guidance produced by the Arts Council called Keeping Arts Safe which covers child protection in the arts. http://www.artscouncil.org.uk/publication_archive/keeping-arts-safe-second-edition/
I hope this helps.
