The central Safe Network team brings a wide range of safeguarding experience to help you ensure that your child or the children in your care are as safe as possible.

Simon Massey: Head of Safe Network
Joined the team in March 2011, just as the Safe Network was successful in securing a further two years funding from the Department for Education, which has brought vast changes to the team. During this period the unit has been building on our new partnership and  furthering plans to take us through to April 2013.

I have overall management responsibility for the Safe Network, which means I oversee and produce service plans, report back to the DfE and  manage any child protection concerns which may arise.  I manage the core team and work closely with Children England and Child Accident Prevention Trust.  It is a varied role with each day bringing new challenges and exciting developments.

I am a social worker by training but have spent much of my career working in the voluntary and community sector in play / youth projects, therapeutic social work teams and with Safe Network’s predecessor, Safe communities.  I have also got experience in residential child care, front line statutory social work teams, assessing and training social work students and, more recently, working as a Senior Consultant for the NSPCC providing organisations with advice and support in relation to child protection and safeguarding.
