all new members of staff

All new members of staff need to be inducted into your organisation properly. This section will help you know what to do.

When a new volunteer or paid member of staff joins your organisation you should set up an induction programme which includes an introduction to your:

  • safeguarding procedures
  • code of behaviour for employees and volunteers
  • policies and procedures for dealing with concerns about an individual’s behaviour.

"A trial period gives you the opportunity to identify any extra needs."

New staff members should receive child protection awareness Educare training as soon as possible.

Trial period

A specific trial or probationary period gives both you and the employee a chance to raise concerns and deal with problems early on. It gives you the opportunity to provide extra supervision and identify any extra needs of the new member and gives them the chance to ask questions and ask for support if they need it.
